Nannochloropsis Oculata - Live
Nannochloropsis oculata — Live Phytoplankton
Small cells with an important role in the marine food web. Our live, single-species Nannochloropsis oculata provides a natural food source for compatible filter feeders and is especially useful for feeding and enriching rotifers.
What makes Nannochloropsis beneficial?
A natural source of EPA omega-3
Nannochloropsis is known for its EPA content—an essential omega-3 fatty acid used in marine animal nutrition. When rotifers consume it, they carry that nutrition to the fish larvae and other animals that eat them.
Feeds the food web
Feeding phytoplankton supports more than the animals consuming it directly. By nourishing suitable zooplankton, Nannochloropsis helps move nutrition from microscopic algae into the larger marine food web.
Useful for live-food production
Nannochloropsis is widely used in aquaculture for rotifer production and enrichment. It’s a practical choice for hobbyists raising live foods and looking to incorporate an EPA-rich phytoplankton species into their feeding program.
A single species for targeted feeding and culturing
Whether you’re feeding an aquarium or starting a separate phytoplankton culture, a single-species bottle lets you choose exactly what you’re adding. It can also be paired with other phytoplankton species to provide a broader nutritional mix.
Storage & Use
Keep refrigerated and shake gently before each use. We recommend a starting dose of 5 mL per 25 gallons of aquarium water, daily or every other day. Adjust as needed based on your aquarium’s livestock, nutrient levels, and response to feeding.
Available in 8, 16, 32, and 64 oz bottles, plus 1-gallon sizes.
Cultured by 4th Dimension Aquatics — a Florida Certified Aquaculture Facility.
